Andrew Invited to Join “Athletes in Action” in China

Before he heads to Ithaca and Cornell later in August, Andrew has accepted the invitation to join an Athletes in Action team traveling to China.

The team will compete against some of China’s top professional squads as well as the Chinese 21 & under National Team.

Of course, the purpose of Athletes in Action is not only basketball. The opportunity to grow in faith in Christ and to share the message of Christian hope is integral to the experience. Along with the competition, the Athletes in Action team will conduct basketball clinics and participate in community service work.

FOX 6 interview of Jake Barnett and Andrew Ferry

Andrew and his friend, Jake Barnett, have been workout partners for a long time. I talk about Jake a little bit in Faith in the Freshman. In this video, Andrew is at the right place at the right time. FOX 6 was doing a feature on Jake’s trip to Bulgaria this summer with Athletes in Action. They also interviewed Andrew and both guys talk about their plans for next year.

An update from Andrew…Cornell!

I’ll let Andrew speak for himself this time. Here is what he has to say, “After much consideration, thought, and prayer, I have made my decision to attend Cornell University. I believe Cornell is the perfect place to pursue my basketball goals as well as receive a high quality education. I am looking forward to getting started and getting back into the NCAA Tournament next year! Thanks for all the support and prayers!”

So, it is official, Andrew has decided to attend Cornell University next year. The links below are from the website and blog that covers Cornell basketball (and they do so very thoroughly! You will be able to follow Cornell as they defend their Ivy League championship and make their way back to the NCAA tournament once again. Badgers fans beware!).

Sophomore Story

No, I’m not necessarilyplanning the sequel to Faith in the Freshman. However, readers occasionally ask me about Andrew’s sophomore season at Palm Beach Community College.

Here are a few highlights:
     *     First-Team All Region
     *     First Team All Conference
     *     18.7 points per game
     *     105 three-pointers in 26 games

Within the next few weeks, Andrew will make a decision about where to transfer. We will keep you posted!

59th Annual CIT

What a weekend at CUW! The 59th annual CIT was played in front of a huge, enthusiastic crowd. Special kudos to the CUW Falcon men following their tournament championship. A narrow 69-68 victory on Friday over Chicago was followed by an impressive 91-73 victory over Seward. Congratulations, also, to the Seward women who defeated our Falcons in the women’s championship game.

Andrew Ferry Update

Occasionally readers of “Faith in the Freshman” have asked me about updates on Andrew Ferry’s sophomore season. Now 20 games into the schedule, Andrew ranks 28th in the nation in scoring among Juco players at 19.1 points per game.

He continues to lead the country in 3-pointers made (80, or 4 per game). He has had conversations with a number of schools and hopes to play DI again next year. We’ll see how it goes! Follow the story at www.faithinthefreshman.com. Here are some photos from a recent game:

Andrew Ferry Christmas Update

In his last game before Christmas break, Andrew had a break of a different sort. He broke his nose against Miami Dade! Surgery was successful, and now he’ll play with a mask for a while. Sixteen games into the season, Andrew averages 19.1 points per game. His 65 three-pointers leads the nation for JUCO players! Here are some more photos from recent games!
